WHAT WE DO

Companionship

This is the most essential service that a Friendly Visitor can provide. At times homebound individuals long for one on one social contact to alleviate their loneliness during the week. Our volunteers often have life-changing experiences through the time they spend with their homebound friend. One hour a week is all it takes to make a difference in a homebound individuals life.

Reading

A single hour each week spent visiting and reading to a homebound individual can really shed some light in their world. Reading is a simple task that we so often take for granted, but for those who no longer have the gift of sight something as simple as having the newspaper read to them can be the highlight of their week.

Telephone Reassurance

Many homebound individuals rely on the company of the telephone for outside connections. Do you enjoy speaking on the phone? If so, this service might be perfect for you! You can have weekly phone conversations with a homebound individual, and can do it from the comfort and privacy of your own home, or on your lunch break in the office.

Phone chats average approximately 20 minutes and require a weekly commitment.

Shopping & Escort

Citymeals-on-Wheels provides our seniors with a home delivered meal, but they still need a few groceries and other things they may enjoy that are difficult for them to get. A Friendly Visitor can help with light grocery shopping and other errands or even help their senior take a stroll outside.

And More… Our caring and creative volunteers come up with fun and interesting new ways to spend their visits. Many of our volunteers encourage their homebound friend to stimulate their body and mind and do such activities as indoor yoga or playing a round of chess. These are just some of the ways that Friendly Visitors make a difference to a homebound individuals life.
